Arsenal and Manchester United linked striker Gonzalo Higuain has refused sign a contract extension with the Italian outfit, the player's brother, who also acts as his agent, has revealed.

The 27-year-old has a contract with Napoli that runs until June 2018 and has been linked with a move away from the club with the Premier League being tipped as his most preferred destination.

Gli Azzurri though are reluctant to sell one of their prized asset and have been involved in negotiations to extent his contract at least for one more year.

However, Higuain's brother Nicolas though has now revealed that they had a meeting with the club president and have informed him that they will continue with their original contract until 2018 and will try to honour the contract that the striker has with the club.

According to Nicolas, his brother has not been offered an improved contract by the club and that is why they will continue with the old one, something which will give the striker's suitors renewed hope.

"We had a meeting with the president ten days ago in Venice and we talked a bit 'of everything", Nicolas told Radio Crc.

"He has given us the possibility to extend the contract for one year more but I think, and we believe, that we will continue with the original contract until 2018.

"I do not think we will accept the president's proposal because it is a contract that is not so different from what we had signed before.

"We are happy and peaceful to continue with these conditions."
