Real Madrid are hoping to get a deal for Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea done within this week, according to Madrid-based daily Marca, as they would rather him not play for the Red Devils against Tottenham Hotspur.

De Gea has been linked with a move to Spain all summer, and speculation regarding his future has gathered pace since Iker Casillas left the club for FC Porto.

The Red Devils are firm on their €40m valuation of De Gea and negotiations are set to continue in an effort to reach an agreement.

Manchester United have completed their pre-season commitments, while Real Madrid are currently in Germany for the Audi Cup pre-season tournament.

The Old Trafford outfit are up against Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Saturday, and Real Madrid are keen to secure a deal for their number one target before he plays a competitive game for the Red Devils in the 2015/16 season, as it would represent a PR blow for Los Blancos.

The Spanish giants have already bought goalkeeper Kiko Casilla from Espanyol this summer however, meaning their negotiating position on signing De Gea has been strengthened, while Manchester United have also brought in a goalkeeping reinforcement in Sergio Romero.

With Red Devils manager Louis van Gaal seeking a swift end to the saga and Real Madrid keen on securing their target ahead of the Premier League kick-off this Saturday, De Gea's chances of a quick move to Spain appear to have never been higher.
