Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier has talked up the importance of facing top opponents like Real Madrid and Bayern Munich ahead of the new Premier League season.

Spurs start their season away at Old Trafford against Manchester United this Saturday and they are currently in Germany to round off their pre-season.

The north London outfit are up against Real Madrid later today and will face either Bayern Munich or AC Milan tomorrow in the Audi Cup, and the young defender believes playing against the likes of Los Blancos will be ideal preparation for Saturday’s game.

“Ahead of playing United away in the opening game of the season there’s nothing better than playing against teams like Real Madrid and then Bayern Munich or AC Milan”, Dier said to Tottenham’s official website.

“You couldn’t have asked for tougher games really and that’s exactly what we want at this stage.”
