Southampton are ready to make a bid for Schalke’s Germany international midfielder Leon Goretzka.

Despite signing Jordy Clasie, Ronald Koeman is keen to add more midfield talent to his squad to compensate for the loss of Morgan Schneiderlin this summer.




The Dutchman has eyes set on the 20-year-old Schalke midfielder Goretzka and is keen to take him to the south coast club before the transfer window closes on 1st September.

According to Germany daily Bild, Southampton are ready to act on their interest and are willing to offer €16m for the services of the Schalke midfield star.
 


A Southampton scout was present at Schalke’s recent pre-season friendly draw against FC Twente and kept a close watch on the performance of Goretzka.

Schooled at VfL Bochum, the midfielder joined Schalke in 2013 and has quickly established himself as a rising star of German football.

Injury problems relegated him to just ten Bundesliga appeaerances last season, but he did enough to attract the interest of Southampton boss Koeman, who is desperate to take him to England this summer.

The 20-year-old has already made his debut for Germany and has a contract until 2018 with Schalke.
