Leeds United executive director Adam Pearson is excited about the Whites’ preparations for the upcoming Championship campaign, saying their young core reminds him of the 1998/99 group.

The Elland Road club are under the new regime of Uwe Rosler, have been gearing up for the 2015/16 season and beat Everton 2-0 at home in a pre-season friendly last weekend.

And Pearson is pleased with the state of affairs at his club, and has also talked up the impact made by the new management team since coming in in the summer.

“The performance against Everton on Saturday showed a lot of bright signs”, Pearson said to BBC Radio Leeds.

“Certainly the head coach and his assistant coaches have made a real impact at Thorp Arch.”

He believes the change of atmosphere at the club has been evident with the sense of unity, discipline and work ethic among the players and the staff which has raised the excitement levels at the club for the new season.

“There seems to be a real sense of unity, discipline and work ethic there which augers well for the future.

“And we're all very excited now about the season.”

Pearson has drawn comparisons of Leeds’ current crop of players to the group of 1998/99, a time when the club challenged at the top of the first division, and is confident the current squad can do well provided they build around a consistent, injury free core.

“I think a core of young players within the team reminds me so much of 98/99 when George [Graham] and David [O’Leary] brought those players through.

“If we can build around that core and get injury free, and get a consistent eleven out there, I think we could have a promising season”, he added.

The Whites kick off their 2015/16 Championship campaign at home against newly-relegated Burnley tomorrow in a game which will be Rosler’s first competitive match in charge of the club.
