Real Madrid want Celtic linked midfield starlet Martin Odegaard to continue at the Santiago Bernabeu ahead of the forthcoming 2015/16 campaign, according to Madrid-based daily AS.

Odegaard put pen to paper on a Real Madrid contract earlier this year, despite being chased by a whole host of European giants that included Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Celtic amongst others.

He was slotted into Real Madrid Castilla, that are managed by French legend Zinedine Zidane, and went on to make 11 appearances for the side in the third division, failing to inspire them to second division promotion.

Real Madrid have entrusted management duties to Rafael Benitez after dispensing with the services of Italian Carlo Ancelotti and the former Liverpool boss recently declared being unsure about the teenager’s future at the club.

Odegaard has been keen on first team action, but Benitez appears unlikely to ensure that on a regular basis and a loan move for the youngster was mooted.

However, Los Blancos appear keen to keep the Norway international at the Santiago Bernabeu, despite receiving an official request from Getafe for a loan deal, and want him to continue with the B team with the promise of senior appearances in cup games.

Celtic, who were after the youngster for a move before he signed for Real Madrid, could also be interested in a loan deal for him.

Odegaard made his senior debut for Los Blancos against Getafe in the final game of the 2014/15 league season.
