Ajax coach Frank de Boer is concerned about Manchester United selling David de Gea to Real Madrid very late in the transfer window and then coming calling for Jasper Cillessen to replace the Spaniard.

The Red Devils have been strongly linked with turning to Cillessen as a replacement for De Gea, as the Spaniard is expected to head to Real Madrid.

Ajax are hoping they can keep hold of the goalkeeper, but De Boer admits they could have an issue if a late approach is made, especially as it would leave them little time to sign their own replacement.

"If it takes a long time before it happens, we are increasingly in trouble", De Boer admitted to Ajax TV.

"We will keep ourselves tight together, not to let him go….unless there is something incredible, but it is not true we have replacements in line", he added.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is thought to be a big fan of Cillessen, but De Boer is desperate for Ajax to keep their custodian.

"We'd love to keep Jasper", the Ajax boss explained.

"I do not expect him to go away, but that is my hope."

Manchester United did not play David de Gea at the weekend, handing Sergio Romero his debut. The Red Devils are also expected to offload another goalkeeper in Victor Valdes.
