Inter are ready to make a move for Liverpool forward Fabio Borini when Xherdan Shaqiri makes his switch to Stoke City, according to Italian daily Corriere dello Sport.

Shaqiri was at Stoke's 1-0 home defeat to Liverpool on Sunday and was scheduled to undergo medical checks with the Potters yesterday. Stoke are hopeful of imminently wrapping up the signing of the Switzerland international.

Inter have been trying to offload Shaqiri for much of the summer and free of the Swiss will now look to reinforce their squad.

Wolfsburg's Ivan Perisic was the club's favoured option, but a deal is complicated and has led the Nerazzurri to Borini.

However, Inter do face fierce competition for the forward, who has been declared surplus to requirements at Anfield.

Lazio are interested and may be able to offer the Italian Champions League football if they can progress beyond the playoff round, while Fiorentina also want Borini.

Inter would at first think of Borini arriving on loan, with an option to buy built into the agreement.
