Leeds United have slapped in a bid for young NEC Nijmegen winger Anthony Limbombe, but it has failed.

The 21-year-old has firm fans in the Whites, who are keen to steal him away from the Netherlands in the current transfer window.

According to FOX Sports, the Championship side have placed a bid of €2m on NEC's table for Limbombe.

However, NEC have rejected the bid and are keen to keep hold of the winger if possible.

The Dutch club are adamant that they do not want to lose a player they only snapped up last year from Belgian side Racing Genk.

Limbombe impressed during his first campaign with NEC, helping the club achieve promotion to the Eredivisie and netting 14 times along the way.

The ball is now in Leeds' court to come back with an improved offer for the Belgian if they are serious about taking him to Elland Road in the summer window.

Limbombe started his career in the youth ranks at Mechelen before then switching to Genk. He spent time away from the club at Lierse before joining NEC.
