Sampdoria president Massimo Ferrero has held talks with super agent Mino Raiola about a possible deal for Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli.

Raiola represents Balotelli and is looking for a new club for his client, who has fallen badly out of favour at Anfield despite joining Liverpool just a year ago.

According to Sky Italia, Ferrero and Raiola have spoken about the possibility of Balotelli joining Sampdoria this summer.

However, for any deal to go ahead Liverpool would have to make a financial contribution, likely by paying off the Italian or subsidising his wages on a loan switch.

Ferrero wants to pair Balotelli up with Antonio Cassano to recreate the partnership Italy enjoyed at Euro 2012.

But Sampdoria cannot afford to meet the wages Balotelli currently earns at Liverpool, while when adding a potential transfer fee into the mix the situation becomes even tougher for the Serie A side.

Liverpool paid AC Milan £16m to sign Balotelli last summer.
