Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho insists that his club's fans have no need to worry about a lack of activity in the transfer window so far.

The Blues had been expected to be bigger spenders this summer as they look to defend their Premier League title, but have so far kept a close watch over their cash.

It was suggested to Mourinho that Chelsea fans may be concerned about a lack of signings at Stamford Bridge, but the Portuguese feels Blues supporters have had no reason to grumble since Roman Abramovich took control of the club, while he also insisted that a long term view is being taken at the Premier League champions, rather than acting in the moment.

Mourinho told a press conference: "If Chelsea supporters are worried about the transfer window it must be until the moment Mr Abramovich bought the club because since he bought the club Chelsea supporters cannot speak in a negative way about the transfer market, only in a positive way.

"We managers won titles, players won titles and I think the contribution of the owner has been fantastic", Mourinho continued, saluting the Abramovich era.

"If we are not top of the league in relation to spenders, it doesn't mean people need to be worried.

"Why? First of all, the transfer window is still open until 31st August.

"Second, you don't always have to be the champion in the market.

"Third, we do things when we can do and when we think it's the right moment to.

"For example, we didn't buy a striker two years ago. We didn't buy a striker because we knew the next year Diego Costa is coming and for a price which doesn't need discussion.

"So you need to think more than in the moment", Mourinho added.

Chelsea started their Premier League campaign last weekend by playing out a 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge with Swansea City.

They are next in action away at Manchester City this coming Sunday, a game which pits last season's two title challengers together.
