Adnan Januzaj has rubbished speculation of him leaving Manchester United to join Sunderland on loan.

It was recently reported that Sunderland have been in discussions with Manchester United over taking Januzaj to the Stadium of Light on a loan deal for the season.

However, Manchester United fielded Januzaj this evening against Aston Villa and scored the only goal for his side in a 1-0 win at Villa Park.

And Januzaj was asked after the match about speculation that he could move away from Old Trafford on loan.

But the winger insists he wants to fight for his place under Louis van Gaal with the Red Devils, dubbing the speculation linking him with the Black Cats "rumours".

"It was only rumours", he told Sky Sports, asked about a loan move.

"I'm happy here.

"Of course, I'm going to fight for my place."

However, Van Gaal says that Januzaj must continue to show his qualities to stay at the club, commenting: "It has to be also that he is showing that [fight to stay] of course, but all the other aspects of football, you have to show it also.

"I am very pleased, but there is more than just scoring a goal."
