Tottenham Hotspur new boy Clinton Njie admits that he had interest from the club's fierce rivals Arsenal, but says they never made personal contact to sell a move to the Emirates Stadium to him.

Njie completed a switch to Spurs from French giants Lyon yesterday, putting pen to paper on a contract running through until 2020 at White Hart Lane.

The 22-year-old was repeatedly linked with Arsene Wenger's Arsenal and it was suggested almost up until the moment he signed for Spurs that the Gunners were looking to hijack the deal.

But Njie revealed Arsenal only ever spoke to his agent and he never had any worries about not landing at Tottenham, despite talk of a rival bid.

He told French sports daily L'Equipe: "I've never been afraid that my transfer to Tottenham would not happen [because of bids from other clubs].

"I never had the management from Arsenal on the phone, they only contacted my agent.

"My choice was made, I was determined to join Tottenham."

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas said on Friday that he had received another bid from an English side for Njie which complicated his sale to Spurs, but the forward himself is in the dark on the details.

"I do not know why president Aulas said that [smiles]."

Njie will now be looking to hit the ground running at Tottenham, who have lost and drawn in their opening two Premier League games this season.

The Cameroon international though is awaiting a work permit and international clearance, both being needed before he can place himself at the disposal of manager Mauricio Pochettino.
