Manchester United have raised the stakes in their pursuit of Thomas Muller from Bayern Munich, it has been claimed.

Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal is a firm fan of Muller, who he worked with at the Allianz Arena, and has been doggedly chasing his signature this summer.

Bayern Munich are steadfastly opposing his sale, but Manchester United are still pushing at the door.

According to German magazine Sport Bild, Van Gaal's men have now slapped in a bid of €85m for Muller, in a sign of their determination to sign him.

Bayern Munich are not keen on losing Muller and believe it would send out the wrong message after they sold Bastian Schweinsteiger to Manchester United earlier this summer.
