Everton have agreed a deal to sign Argentine defender Ramiro Funes Mori from River Plate this summer, it has been claimed.

Regardless of Chelsea target John Stones’ future at the club, Roberto Martinez is in the market for a defender this summer and has looked at a number of options across Europe.




However, the Everton boss has decided to recruit a new defender from South America and according to L’Equipe, they have reached an agreement with River Plate for the signature of Mori.

It has been suggested that Everton have a struck a deal worth €7.2m with the iconic Argentine club to take the 24-year-old defender to Merseyside.
 


Once he secures a work permit and passes a medical with Everton, Mori is expected to sign a five-year contract with his new club.

Schooled at River Plate’s youth academy, the defender quickly made a name for himself at the Estadio Monumental Antonio Vespucio Liberti and was a crucial part of the team that won the Copa Libertadores last season.

Mori’s performances at River Plate also earned him a call up to the national team and he made his debut for Argentina in March this year.

He made 85 senior appearances for Los Millonarios and is now expected to continue his career at Goodison Park this season.
