Sunderland have reached an agreement with Napoli over signing midfielder Jonathan de Guzman, it has been claimed.

The Black Cats have been in talks with Napoli over taking De Guzman to the Stadium of Light, with the player keen on a return to the Premier League; he enjoyed a loan stint at Swansea City prior to his switch to Italy from Villarreal.

Sunderland met with Napoli officials in Milan recently and according to French radio station RMC, an agreement has been found.

De Guzman will join Dick Advocaat's men on a season-long loan deal, with a mandatory purchase option tagged on.

Sunderland are desperate to bring in reinforcements before the transfer window closes as they bid to recover from a poor start to the new Premier League campaign.
