Everton manager Roberto Martinez has insisted that John Stones has not handed in a transfer request.

Chelsea are actively seeking to prise the former Barnsley defender from Everton this summer, but the Toffees have so far resisted any temptation to sell him.

Everton have already rejected two big money bids from the Premier League champions and have maintained that the 21-year-old defender won’t be sold at any price this summer.

It had been suggested that Stones has handed in a transfer request to force his way out of Goodison, but Martinez rubbished any such suggestion.

When asked whether Stones has submitted a transfer request, the Everton boss said in a press conference: “No, I am not aware [of that].”

Martinez also insisted that he is not keen to concentrate on such matters at the moment as his team are preparing to host an in-form Manchester City side on Sunday.

The Everton boss also stressed that he should not be discussing speculation so close to a crucial game for his side

“It is not an area we need to concentrate at the moment. We need to concentrate that in 48 hours we face a team who are at the top of league.

“The discussion we are having now is wrong, we should be talking about the game.”
