Louis van Gaal has reiterated that if Manchester United wanted Pedro Rodriguez they would have got him.

The Spanish forward was extensively linked with a move to Old Trafford over the last month or so, but Manchester United did not manage to take Pedro to Old Trafford and Chelsea stole in to sign him.

Manchester United are believed to have been unwilling to pay his release clause and Van Gaal was reported to have been the one who decided to drop their interest in Pedro, however it has also been claimed Chelsea beat the Red Devils to the Spaniard.

While he does not want to delve too much into the details of the Pedro deal, the Manchester United manager said that if he wanted him it would have been an easy deal to conclude because of the release clause.

“I cannot answer these questions”, Van Gaal said in a press conference this morning when pressed on Pedro.

“I have said that all what we are doing is guiding a process and in that we take decisions.

“If we wanted Pedro it could have been easy as he had a release clause.”

The Manchester United boss also stressed that he never said publicly that he was interested in signing the former Barcelona forward in the first place.

“I said he fitted our profile, but I didn’t say that I was interested in the player.”

Manchester United are still said to be in the market for a forward and are reportedly interested in Southampton’s Senegalese international Sadio Mane.
