NEC Nijmegen have blamed interest from Leeds United for their decision to leave winger Anthony Limbombe out of their squad to lock horns with Ajax.

The Dutch side play Ajax tomorrow in the Eredivisie, but have chosen to omit Limbombe from their group as they feel the Belgian is not sufficiently focused on the game against Frank de Boer's men.

Leeds have already seen a €2m bid for Limbombe rejected and have been tipped to go in with a new offer before the transfer window closes this summer.

NEC released a statement explaining their stance, which read: "On Sunday 23rd August, NEC will be without Anthony Limbombe for the game against Ajax Amsterdam.

"The Belgian footballer has for some time been the source of emphatic interest from Leeds United", it continued.

"It is for this reason that he is insufficiently focused on his duties and responsibilities within the team and therefore has no place in the squad."

NEC only signed Limbombe last summer and he was a star performer for the club in the Dutch second tier last season as he helped them to promotion to the top flight.

It now seems interest from Leeds and the prospect of moving to Elland Road this month has turned the winger's head.

NEC however have been keen to keep hold of Limbombe as they bid to enjoy a fruitful campaign in the Eredivisie.
