Rangers manager Mark Warburton insists that Arsenal youngster Gedion Zelalem has not been guaranteed regular first team football at Ibrox and will have to work for his place.

Warburton added Zelalem to the ranks at Ibrox yesterday, signing the young midfielder on loan until January, while the deal could yet be extended to cover the whole season.

It has been suggested in some quarters that Rangers had to guarantee Zelalem regular first team football to seal the deal, but Warburton insists that is not the case.

"I read in a few places that there is a guaranteed place for him. It doesn't work that way. Everyone has to earn their shirt and earn their pitch time", he told a press conference.

"He's got loads of talent and he'll figure well for us, but he knows he has to earn that time", the Rangers boss continued.

"He's an attacking midfield player, so whether he plays 7, 8, 10, 11…I don't want players who are confined to one position."

And Warburton says that Arsenal are well aware of the style of football Zelalem will be required to play during his time at Ibrox.

"We speak to Arsenal and we know how they play and they know how we play."

Zelalem has gone into Rangers' squad for Wednesday night's cup game away at Airdrieonians and will be looking to make his debut for the Gers.
