Newcastle United striker Yoan Gouffran has emerged as a target for Ligue 1 side Saint-Etienne.

The 29-year-old Frenchman joined Newcastle from Bordeaux in January 2013 and continued to be a regular in the Magpies team until last season.

However, with Steve McClaren’s arrival, Gouffran has found himself out of the first team picture and was not included in the playing squad for any of their opening three league games.

There is speculation that Newcastle are keen to offload the forward this summer and are ready to listen to offers for a player who is struggling to feature in McClaren’s plans for this season.

Ligue 1 side Saint-Etienne are paying close attention to the 29-year-old’s situation and according to France Football, they are considering making a move for him.

However, they are also interested in Rapid Vienna forward Robert Beric and will only bring in one of their targets this summer to complement their squad.

But they will not make a move for either until after they negotiate their Europa League playoff tie this Thursday.

Gouffran has made 87 appearances for Newcastle United, scoring 12 goals and providing eight assists.
