Real Sociedad have agreed a deal in principle with Real Madrid for Liverpool and AC Milan target Asier Illarramendi, according to Spanish daily AS.

Illarramendi is said to be close to sealing a move back to the Anoeta this summer as La Real have reached an agreement with Real Madrid over a transfer for the Spain midfielder.

Real Sociedad have agreed a deal worth €16m for their former player with Los Blancos and other variables could further increase the final amount of the transfer in the future to around €20m; still a significant loss on the €32m Real Madrid paid for the midfielder.

Illarramendi is expected to move to Anoeta on a season-long loan deal with a mandatory purchase option at the end of this season.

Liverpool were also interested in the player and were reported to have slapped in a bid for him, but David Moyes is set to beat off competition from the Premier League giants for the midfielder’s signature.

According to Sky Italia, AC Milan have also lodged a late enquiry for Illarramendi, but the midfielder is believed to be keen to rejoin his old club in San Sebastian this summer.

The midfielder’s future has been up in the air since January and while he was keen to fight for his place in the squad, the lure of more regular football under Moyes is believed to have made the decision for him.
