Manchester United have slapped in a bid of €40m plus add-ons as they scramble to secure the services of Lazio attacking midfielder Felipe Anderson before the transfer window slams shut on Tuesday.

The Red Devils have been frustrated of late in their transfer dealings, seeing targets Nicolas Otamendi and Pedro Rodriguez reinforce Premier League rivals Manchester City and Chelsea respectively.

Louis van Gaal has also lost Angel di Maria to Paris Saint-Germain, leaving him looking for pace and attacking verve in the final stretch of the transfer window.

Now the Dutchman, following Manchester United's qualification for the group stage of the Champions League, has made his play for Anderson.

According to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato, Manchester United have offered Lazio a fee of €40m plus add-ons in order to try to tempt the Rome outfit into parting with the Brazilian.

Lazio's desire to hold onto Anderson is now being tested and having failed to reach the Champions League group stage, the Serie A side may be tempted to sell.

The 22-year-old joined Lazio from Santos in 2013 and wasted no time in becoming an established member of the side.

He helped Lazio finish third in Serie A last term.
