Arjen Robben admits he sees similarities between Manchester United winger Memphis Depay’s career graph and his own.

Depay was the top goalscorer in the Eredivisie last season, which helped PSV Eindhoven to win the Dutch top flight and also earned him a big money move to Manchester United.

While the 21-year-old is yet to come into his own in the Premier League this season, his performance in the Champions League playoff tie against Club Brugge showed the quality that Manchester United have invested in this summer.

Robben, who also arrived in England with Chelsea from PSV, is a big fan of his Dutch national team colleague and revealed that their careers have almost followed a similar pattern.

Speaking to Voetbal International about the similarities between his and Depay’s careers, the Bayern Munich winger said: “I was only 21 when I left PSV and went to Chelsea.

“And I went directly from the Eredivisie to an elite club.”

The winger also advised Depay to work hard to get used to football in England and have an open mind to suggestions which could take his game to the next level.

“It demands a lot from you as the level and the intensity is much higher [than in the Netherlands].

“The only way to survive is to open your mind to the world of football. You have to give your 100% in every training session to improve your game.”

Robben left Chelsea in 2007 to join Real Madrid and later joined Bayern Munich in 2009, where he has achieved enormous success.
