Aston Villa flop Aleksandar Tonev has departed the club to link up with Serie A new boys Frosinone Calcio.

The Bulgarian winger, who Aston Villa snapped up from Polish side Lech Poznan in 2013, spent last term on loan at Scottish champions Celtic.

He struggled to make an impact however and has now headed to Italy's top flight to try his luck in a new country and a new league.

The Serie A side announced in a statement: "Frosinone Calcio announces that it has acquired the player Aleksandar Tonev."

Tonev has joined Frosinone on an outright deal, meaning his time at Aston Villa has come to a close.
