Leeds United midfielder Alex Mowatt has removed a photograph he posted on Instagram after not receiving a favourable response from a number of Whites fans.

Mowatt posted a photograph of one of his first Leeds shirts, with the number 10 on the back and the name Kewell, alongside his own present day Leeds shirt with number 10 on.

The midfielder was pointing out that Harry Kewell was his idol as a Leeds supporting youngster, while he is now the one wearing the number 10 shirt at Elland Road.

Kewell however is a controversial figure at Leeds given he chose to sign for Galatasaray later in his career.

The move went down badly with Leeds fans due to the fact he had played for Leeds when they took on Galatasaray in the UEFA Cup and saw two of their fans killed in Turkey during clashes before the game.

And Mowatt posting a photograph of Kewell's Leeds shirt garnered a negative response, which meant the midfielder chosen to remove it.

He removed the post and wrote on Twitter: "Woow Well that didn't go down well.

"Found out the hard way why no players tweet."

Kewell left Leeds to join Liverpool in 2003, while he then moved on to Galatasaray after he left Anfield in 2008.

Currently the Australian works as the Under-21 boss at Premier League side Watford.
