Genoa are pondering making a move to sign former Newcastle United midfielder Jonas Gutierrez.

The Rossoblu are hunting for reinforcements this summer and have zeroed in on the Argentine as a potential addition, according to Sky Italia.

Gutierrez was released by Newcastle at the end of last season after a seven-year spell at St. James' Park.

The 32-year-old battled back from testicular cancer during the latter part of his time with the Premier League club, but is now on the lookout for the next chapter in his career.

Gutierrez won 22 caps for Argentina at international level between 2007 and 2011 and is an attractive prospect for Genoa.

The Argentine is able to move outside the transfer window system as a free agent, meaning there is no pressure on the Serie A side to push a deal over the line next week.

Nevertheless, the Rossoblu want to add to their squad as quickly as possible.
