Galatasaray have chosen not to push ahead with a swoop for Newcastle United striker Papiss Cisse, according to Turkish outlet Futbol Arena.

The Turkish Super Lig champions were keen on adding Cisse to their ranks before the closure of the transfer window this summer.

But Newcastle's asking price of €6m, combined with the player's wage demands and other associated costs, have caused Galatasaray to call time on the chase.

Galatasaray will now look elsewhere for another striker before the window shuts.

The 30-year-old striker scored eleven goals in 22 Premier League matches for the Magpies last term and Galatasaray were hoping to add his finishing power to their ranks.
