Besiktas have called a halt to their push to sign goalkeeper Victor Valdes from Manchester United.

The out-of-favour Spaniard appeared set to be joining the Black Eagles, but the move has hit a hitch and the Turkish side are no longer pursuing his signature, it has been claimed.

According to Italian broadcaster Sky Italia, Besiktas coach Senol Gunes has blocked the move after concluding he does not need a new goalkeeper.

Valdes had already accepted the offer from Besiktas and Manchester United were happy to allow the former Barcelona man to leave.

But now it appears Valdes' agents will have to work overtime to find him an escape route from Old Trafford before the transfer window closes.

Valdes is out of favour at the English club following a falling out with manager Louis van Gaal.

The goalkeeper has been accused by the Red Devils boss of refusing to play in an Under-21 game, something which has led to him being frozen out of the first team picture.

Valdes signed for Manchester United as a free agent earlier this year and featured twice for the first team last season.
