Manchester United youngster Tyler Blackett has stressed the need for him to enjoy much-needed first team playing time at Celtic.

The defender joined the Bhoys on a season-long loan deal at the weekend and will be linking up with his former academy team-mate Saidy Janko at Celtic Park.

Speaking about the move and the instigators behind his decision, the 21-year-old said that the opportunity to pit his wits against the senior players at Celtic was appealling.

“There are a lot of good players in the 21s but you want to test yourself against older players and get that experience", the Manchester United contracted player said at a press conference.

According to Blackett, it is always tough for a young player to make his mark in a team full of quality senior players. And at a club of Manchester United's stature, the task becomes even more difficult.

"United is a worldwide club and it's always difficult for young players but it makes the challenge bigger."

Celtic on the other hand will give that chance to the youngster he feels, an opinion shared by Blackett's Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal.

"I spoke to him [Van Gaal] yesterday and he said it would be a good experience for me, getting the games I need."

Having started his career as a youngster with the Red Devils, Blackett was part of the Manchester United academy until 2013 when he made his senior debut for the club.
