Liverpool midfielder Roberto Firmino has revealed he is very superstitious when it comes to preparing for games.

The Brazilian international, who Liverpool paid £29m to sign from Bundesliga club Hoffenheim earlier this summer, believes that being superstitious is a trademark of players from his homeland. And he is no exception.

Firmino revealed that he has a number of rituals he must always adhere to before a match and as he is stepping onto the pitch.

The 23-year-old told Liverpoool's official magazine: "A lot of Brazilians are very superstitious, especially footballers.

"I’m the same. I always step on to the pitch with my right foot first", he continued.

"It’s quite curious that back home – even if you are left-footed – it is considered lucky to enter the pitch with your right foot. I don’t know why that is the case.

"I have other mandatory superstitions before a game too. I pray and listen to music on the way to the stadium. I also bless myself just before kick-off", Firmino concluded.

Firmino will no doubt run through his superstitions before Liverpool's next match, which is a crucial game against fierce rivals Manchester United after the international break.

Liverpool slipped to a shock 3-0 home defeat to West Ham United at Anfield last weekend and will be desperate to bounce back when they lock horns with Louis van Gaal's Red Devils, a side they are expected to fight for a top four finish.
