Manchester United are expected to offer a new contract to David de Gea after his transfer to Real Madrid collapsed in the final minutes of the transfer window.

The transfer soap opera involving De Gea’s future at Old Trafford was one of the recurring themes of the summer window and it came to a head when his much anticipated move to Real Madrid crumbled in the final moments of the window.

Real Madrid failed to file the necessary paperwork with the Spanish FA in time to complete the deal and later blamed Manchester United for the delay in a public statement. The English giants hit back last night and said that they did everything necessary from their end to get the deal over the line.

Despite all the acrimonious statements from the two key players in the market, De Gea will stay at Old Trafford for at least this season and it has been suggested that Manchester United might try their luck again with another contract offer.

The Spaniard’s deal with the Red Devils expires at the end of this season and the club have failed to secure him on a new long term contract so far.

However, according to Spanish daily AS, Manchester United are expected to offer him another contract and are keen to see him commit his long term future to Old Trafford.

But for the moment, De Gea is not ready to sign a new deal and is still believed to be keen to leave the club on a free transfer next summer.

However, if he puts pen to paper on a new deal, it strengthens Manchester United’s bargaining position when Real Madrid knock at their door again at the end of this season.
