Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has revealed that the Bavarian giants received a huge bid for Thomas Muller, but he refused to divulge the name of the club in question despite strong speculation the source is none other than Manchester United.

Manchester United were heavily linked with a move for Muller all summer and a figure of €100m was cited in the Red Devils’ reported pursuit of the Germany international.

However, Bayern Munich refused to sell their prized possession and Rummenigge has revealed that indeed a huge offer was on the table for the forward.

"I'm talking about figures which were very high indeed”, he was quoted as saying by ITV.

"If I were a bank manager then I would have had to accept it.”

The former Germany international further revealed that the Bavarian giants slammed the door on any transfer for their forward and they intend to do the same in the future.

He also acknowledged that with Premier League awash with money it will be increasingly hard for Bayern Munich to keep their players in the future.

"But as a football club we allowed ourselves to close the door on it, and this door is remaining closed. I can promise that to everybody.

"But one thing is for certain, in view of the increased television money in England things are not going to get any easier for Bayern in future."

Manchester United acquired Bastian Schweinsteiger from Bayern Munich this summer.
