West Ham co-chairman David Gold expects Alex Song to be available for selection in October.

The Hammers loaned Song from Barcelona last season and repeated the trick again this summer, albeit signing a player who is currently out of action.

But Gold is hopeful that the defensive midfielder will be available for manager Slaven Bilic to select next month.

Asked on Twitter when Song will be fit, Gold replied: "I'm hoping Song will be available in October."

Song was a regular feature for the club last term and there had been suggestions West Ham would look to sign him on a permanent deal this summer.

He could still be signed permanently by the end of the season, Gold admits.

"Anything is possible", the West Ham co-chairman said when asked if Song could be signed permanently at the end of the campaign.

West Ham have won away at both Arsenal and Liverpool so far this season to cap a memorable opening to their final campaign at Upton Park.

Song will be hoping to watch his team-mates clock up another three points when they lock horns with Newcastle United after the international break.
