Rangers defender Rob Kiernan has revealed that former Wigan defender Ivan Ramis is one of the best centre-backs he has ever played with.

The Irish defender joined the Scottish Championship team from Wigan this summer and has already established himself in Mark Warburton’s side in the new season.

Kiernan did spend a few years at Wigan and admits that former Latics defender Ramis is one of the best defenders he played with during his time at the DW Stadium.

The 24-year-old insisted that while the Spaniard was an accomplished defender, he has seen very few centre-halves who were as cultured on the ball as Ramis.

When asked about the best player he has played with, Kiernan told Rangers TV: “As a centre back, I played with Ivan Ramis at Wigan.

“I tend to judge players on how good they are with the football, as well as defending.

“On the ball, he was unbelievable. Talk about cultured football for centre-backs, he is probably one of the examples.

“So he is probably one of the best centre-backs I have played with.”

The Spaniard made 57 appearances for the Latics during his time at the DW Stadium.

Ramis left Wigan in January this year to join Levante, but his time at Estadi Ciutat de Valencia was short-lived as he joined Eibar this summer.
