Manchester United defender Chris Smalling has been nominated for the Premier League’s Player of the Month award for August.
The England international has started the season in sublime fashion at Old Trafford and has been one of the mainstays of Louis van Gaal’s side at the back.
Smalling has emerged as a leader for Manchester United at the back this season and despite a defeat at Swansea at the end of last month, their defence has earned plaudits for their performances.
His consistent run of form has been rewarded and the defender is one of the nominees for the Premier League’s Player of the Month award for August.
Van Gaal has shown faith in the young Manchester United defenders by not signing a centre-half this summer and so far Smalling has performed at a level which should please the Dutchman.
