Rangers chairman Dave King has refused to rule out bringing legend Ally McCoist back to the club in some capacity in the future.

King thrashed out an early contract termination agreement with McCoist yesterday and brought to an end the former manager's period at Ibrox as he departed the club on amicable terms.

The chairman has had warm words for McCoist and has refused to rule out the possibility of bringing the club legend back to Ibrox in some capacity in the future, saluting the 52-year-old's work both as a manager and a player with the Gers.

King said via Rangers TV, when asked about a potential return for McCoist: "I think with no doubt, as I have made clear previously. I think Ally is a Rangers legend and the club’s record goal scorer and he managed the club at a very difficult time under difficult circumstances.

"He didn’t have the opportunity that the current management team have got and the supportive board", King continued.

"He didn’t have the opportunity of funding where he could anticipate in advance; in fact it was quite the opposite because I think the club has been shrunk around Ally.

"There is a level of respect for the job that he did and it must be born in mind that Ally worked for nothing and half-price during some of that time.

"So he has given a lot back to the club and I think it’s good we can now put it behind us and that he can now be recognised for the Rangers hero he is.

"Ally didn’t have to do this because he had an agreement with the club and the club had to honour that agreement, so the concession is all on Ally’s side – he has been generous to the club, it’s not the other way around."

McCoist turned out as a player for Rangers between 1983 and 1998, establishing himself as a legend at Ibrox.

The 52-year-old won nine Scottish top flight titles with Rangers, along with one Scottish Cup and nine Scottish League Cups.
