Chelsea full-back Baba Rahman is hoping to secure more minutes after making his debut last night.

The 21-year-old played his first game for Chelsea last night against Maccabi Tel Aviv in the Champions League and was impressive in their 4-0 win at Stamford Bridge.

He took up his natural position at left-back, as Cesar Azpilicueta moved to the right-back position, replacing the out-of-sorts Branislav Ivanovic.

The former Augsburg man was delighted to make his debut for the Premier League champions and enjoyed playing in front of the home fans in west London.

He was happy to play his part in Chelsea’s big win in the Champions League and has left the judgment of his performance to Jose Mourinho.

“It was great”, Baba told the club’s official website.

“The supporters and the stadium were very nice.

“The team played good and the most important thing was the win and that’s what we did. I think I can adapt more but I leave it up to the coach to judge my performance.”

Baba is hoping to secure more minutes following his debut and is willing to work hard to find a regular spot in the playing eleven this season.

“I’m very happy to be here”, he continued.

“If I push hard I can make it and enjoy myself here. My main aim is to play as many games as I can. I’m really working hard to keep the momentum going.”

Chelsea’s big win over the Israelis could not mask the fact that they have made a poor start to their league campaign and are in desperate need of points against Arsenal this Saturday.

It remains to be seen whether Mourinho is impressed enough by Baba’s performance to hand him a Premier League debut against Arsene Wenger’s men at Stamford Bridge.
