Rayo Vallecano have moved into pole position to sign Martin Odegaard on loan from Real Madrid if his situation at the Bernabeu does not change before the new year.

Odegaard had been tipped to head away from Real Madrid on loan in the summer, with Scottish giants Celtic continually linked with pushing to complete a deal, but the young Norwegian stayed put.

Despite being rated highly by Real Madrid coach Rafael Benitez, the 16-yrear-old midfielder has yet to be handed even one minute of first team action this season.

The midfielder has not even made the bench and according to Spanish outlet Periodista Digital, Rayo Vallecano have moved into pole position to do a deal if his situation does not change.

Rayo Vallecano are keen to sign Odegaard on loan and a move to the Campo de Futbol de Vallecas would keep the Norwegian close by, within Madrid's city boundaries, in order that Los Blancos can keep a close eye on his progress.
