Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen has lauded Hugo Lloris for his performances in the Lilywhites goal and has termed the Frenchman “a number one goalkeeper.”

Lloris played an instrumental role in helping the north Londoners secure a 1-0 win against Crystal Palace last weekend as his heroics denied the Eagles from getting on the scoresheet time and again, allowing his side to come away with all three points – their first win of the season.

Vertonghen, who joined the White Hart Lane outfit in the summer of 2012 under then Tottenham Hotspur boss Andre Villas-Boas and has gone on to become an indispensable part of the team’s defence, has lauded the France national team captain for his heroics in the goal.

“He is an unbelievable goalkeeper”, the Belgium international was quoted as saying by his club’s site.

“It’s difficult for him because most of the game he has nothing to do and out of nothing he makes maybe the best save of his life.

“That’s why he is a number one goalkeeper”, he concluded.

Lloris will be eager to continue his heroics when Spurs go up against fierce derby rivals Arsenal in a League Cup clash tomorrow at White Hart Lane.
