Barcelona forward Neymar has revealed that there was some substance behind talk Manchester United wanted him this summer.

The 23-year-old striker has become one of the key parts of Barcelona’s attacking triumvirate, which includes Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez and is a valued asset for the club.

While Barcelona scoffed at the speculation at that time, there was talk in the summer that Manchester United were keen to lure the Brazil captain to Old Trafford and were working behind the scenes to make the deal happen.

While it was suggested that Neymar might not move this year, there were rumours that the Brazil international could be keen to move to England with Manchester United next summer.

The Catalan giants rubbished the speculation and maintained that Neymar will remain at the Nou Camp for a number of years.

However, the player himself has now attached validity to the speculation and revealed that Manchester United were the cause of conversations in the summer.

He added that nothing came out of those discussions and he never received a formal offer from the Red Devils.

“There were some conversations”, Neymar told ESPN Brasil.

“But nothing materialised. I just heard some rumours, but I did not receive anything.”

Manchester United are keen to bring in marquee names to Old Trafford and it remains to be seen whether they decide to make an audacious bid for Neymar next summer.
