Rangers defender James Tavernier has delighted at his side's hard-fought 3-1 win over Falkirk at Ibrox and believes it had the smell of champions.

The Gers headed into the game with a nine-point lead over their second placed opponents at the top of the Scottish Championship table.

Dean Shiels gave Rangers the lead after just three minutes, but a superb shot from Will Vaulks in the 17th minute drew the visitors level.

Falkirk dug in and as the match headed into the final ten minutes it appeared to be set to finish a draw.

However, right-back Tavernier struck a free-kick into the back of the net in the 81st minute to give Rangers the lead, while Lee Wallace then secured the win in injury time to make it 3-1.

Tavernier feels that his side had to work hard for their win, but believes winning ugly is the mark of champions.

He posted a photograph of himself on social media celebrating and wrote: "What a feeling that was scoring today! Sometimes you gotta win ugly but that's how champions are made."

Rangers are not next in action until the 17th October, after the international break, when they meet Queen of the South at Ibrox.
