Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has revealed that he feels loved and respected at Old Trafford and wants to leave the events of the summer behind him.

De Gea was close to leaving Manchester United for Real Madrid on transfer deadline day, but the move collapsed after the Spanish giants failed to file papers in time to complete the move.




Following the collapse of the transfer, the 24-year-old signed a new four-year contract with Manchester United, strengthening the club’s bargaining positing if Real Madrid make a fresh approach next summer.

While there was speculation that he was keen to join the Spanish giants, De Gea revealed that he is pleased with the outcome of the summer’s events and is happy at Manchester United.
 


He admits that he feels loved and respected at Old Trafford and is looking to pay back the Manchester United faithful’s adulation with trophies in the future.

De Gea was quoted as saying by Bernabeu Digital: “It was a long and difficult summer, but I am happy with the way it finally turned out.

“I believe things happen for a reason; I am now at a club where I am accepted, respected, feel loved and I am very happy. I hope we can win trophies.”

On signing a new contract with the Red Devils, the Spaniard said: “I see it as a new chapter in my career. I have always enjoyed the adulation of the fans and playing football with these team-mates.

“What happened in the summer is my past and I am only focusing on my future.”

Following the summer’s events, De Gea reclaimed his position in the Manchester United first eleven from Sergio Romero and is expected to keep the Argentine out of the team for the rest of the season.
