Manchester United defender Chris Smalling feels that it will be important for England to play with a positive mindset in next summer’s European Championship in France.

The Three Lions were one of the first teams to book their place in next summer’s extravaganza and have a 100% record in their qualifying campaign.

They still have two games left to play and Roy Hodgson is expected to experiment with his team selections in the upcoming fixtures to test the depth of his squad ahead of Euro 2016.

Smalling has emerged as a major candidate to board the place for France next summer with his performances for Manchester United this season and is already looking forward to the tournament.

The defender believes England should play fearless football in the tournament next summer and display the attacking qualities they showed during the qualifying campaign.

"I think it’s a case of us going to France with no fear”, Smalling said in England's official matchday programme.

"A lot of these games in qualifying we have done that, we press teams and attack, and that's something we really need to concentrate on and take into the tournament, and some of our high-profile friendlies, too.”

The Manchester United defender believes England are at their best when they are attacking with pace and believes they need to play positive football in France next summer to show their true qualities.

"When we sit off we invite the pressure, but we are a very quick team going forward and we need to utilise that.

"We need to play on the front foot and I think that will be a factor in us being successful next summer."

England finish their Euro 2016 qualifying campaign with a game against Estonia at Wembley tonight and another away trip to Lithuania on Monday.
