Rangers defender Danny Wilson has insisted that there is a real sense of competition between him and the other defensive newcomers when it comes to securing first team spots.

Wilson, who has returned to Ibrox for his second spell with the club following his departure for Liverpool in 2010, has featured prominently for Mark Warburton's side, playing all nine league matches for the Gers so far.

Rob Kiernan, Wilson's defensive partner on eight of those occasions, is yet another new recruit for the Gers, having been signed from Wigan Athletic this summer.

Dominic Ball, their third defensive partner, who has been recruited from Tottenham on loan, hasn't featured that prominently but has managed to impress as and when he has had opportunities to come in.

Wilson, while praising both of his team-mates, has stressed the fact that there is a strong feeling of competition amongst them, a fact that helps to bring out the best from all of them.

“They are good guys on and off the pitch", Wilson told his club's official website.

"I have played with Rob more but that is no slight on Dom because he has been great when he’s come in and whenever he has been asked to play he has done fantastically well.

"There is real competition amongst us, as there is within the rest of team and that’s what makes us so competitive."
