Former Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson’s has lashed out at Liverpool’s transfer committee and feels the manager’s powers are being encroached upon at Anfield.

Former Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers was blamed for wasting money in the transfer market over the last few summers, but the club's transfer committee, imposed by their American owners Fenway Sports Group, also received their fair share of flak.

Many feel that having a transfer committee has muddled Liverpool’s strategy in the transfer market, but new manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed that he is willing to work under the present structure at Anfield.

Ferguson believes that the idea of a group of people deciding on transfers at a club is wrong and questioned Liverpool’s rationale of having a manager if they can’t trust him.

The legendary former Manchester United boss believes it is the manager who knows best what kind of players he wants and no one else should encroach on his powers.

“If you don’t trust your manager, why have him there?” Ferguson said on ESPN.

“You have got to trust your coach. He is the man that should be deciding which kind of players he wants, the position he wants, the characters he wants.

“It’s the manager who knows more than anyone.”

Ferguson believes that bypassing the manager’s decisions is wrong and feels Klopp would not like to get pushed around by a transfer committee at Liverpool.

“All this is happening in the game; these moneyball ideas, looking at statistics of players and bypassing the manager’s thoughts is wrong.

“Why give him the job, if he can’t do it? When they sit around the table and say that he can be part of the committee; that is wrong and I think Jurgen Klopp is not going to accept that.”
