Barcelona are interested in signing Atletico Madrid midfielder Koke, according to Catalan daily Sport.

Koke is a product of the Atletico Madrid youth academy and has progressed through the ranks to become an indispensable member of their first team under manager Diego Simeone.

The midfielder has gone on to play over 200 games for Los Rojiblancos, helping them win the league title in 2014 as well as progress into the final of the Champions League that same year.

Barcelona boss Luis Enrique is reportedly an admirer of the Spain international and was interested in bringing the player to the Camp Nou last summer.

Chelsea were also linked with the midfielder, but he stayed put at the Vicente Calderon and insisted that he intends to remain at club for a long time.

However Barcelona, who are struggling with a plethora of injuries to many of their first team regulars and are reeling under a FIFA-imposed ban from registering players, remain keen on Koke, it has been claimed.

The Catalans have also been linked with a move for Paul Pogba and Marco Verratti as they look to strengthen their midfield.

It remains to be seen if they make a move for Koke in the summer transfer window next year.
