Sporting Lisbon and Portugal star William Carvalho has revealed he has always had a soft spot for Arsenal, pointing to Thierry Henry as the reason why.

The all-action midfielder has been consistently linked with Arsenal in recent years, while Manchester United have also been mooted to be suitors of the Sporting Lisbon star.

Nevertheless, Sporting Lisbon have succeeded in keeping hold of William and the midfielder remains focused on being successful with the Portuguese club, with a title win his aim.

"I am where I want to be right now, which is Sporting", William told Portuguese sports daily A Bola.

"If one day I change clubs then it's a sign that I've done well here. I dream of winning the Portuguese league", he added.

William may remain focused on Sporting Lisbon at present, but he dropped a clear hint of where he would like his future to be if he does leave the club, with his eyes set firmly on Arsenal.

"I prefer not to say too much, but there is a club I have always loved: Arsenal.

"It's because they had Thierry Henry, a player I always enjoyed watching.

"Perhaps this is also why I've found the Premier League so appealing", William added.

It remains to be seen whether Arsenal or any other Premier League clubs choose to make an approach for William when the transfer window swings back open in the new year.
