Former Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson believes Bastian Schweinsteiger adds much needed trophy-winning nous to the current set-up at Old Trafford.

Louis van Gaal managed to convince the Germany captain to leave his boyhood club Bayern Munich and join him at Manchester United this summer.

The veteran midfielder has seamlessly slotted into the set-up at Old Trafford and has gradually started to exert his influence on the pitch for Van Gaal’s men.

Schweinsteiger is regularly seen directing play from the middle of the park and talking to youngsters, as Manchester United try to reassert their authority on English football under Van Gaal’s tutelage.

Ferguson has been impressed by the Germany captain’s performance and feels that he adds a whole new dimension to the current Manchester United team with his presence.

The legendary Scot indicated that Schweinsteiger’s trophy winning experience will prove to be a crucial element in helping the Red Devils to be successful in the near future.

Speaking to German magazine Kicker, Ferguson said: “Schweinsteiger has that certain something.

“He brings in experience and confidence. He can say I was there before, I know how to win titles.”

Schweinsteiger didn’t play for Germany during the international break due to a thigh injury but Van Gaal will be hoping that his midfield general will be fit to take the field at Everton on Saturday.
