Chelsea defender Gary Cahill admits the Blues players feel as if they are not getting the rub of the green at the moment after they slumped to yet another defeat, going down 2-1 to West Ham at Upton Park.

West Ham took the lead in the 17th minute when Mauro Zarate struck. Chelsea failed to clear a corner and the ball found its way to Zarate, who drove a low shot into the back of the net.

Chelsea almost equalised in the 43rd minute, but a Cesc Fabregas shot was ruled out for offside.

The game then changed on the stroke of half time after Nemanja Matic picked up a second yellow card, being sent off as a result.

At half time Jose Mourinho also saw red, being sent to the stands by the referee after exchanging words with the officials.

But against the odds Chelsea levelled in the 55th minute through Cahill, who connected with a loose ball following a corner.

In the 79th minute though, Andy Carroll, on off the bench, got on the end of an Aaron Cresswell cross to head West Ham back in front.

Chelsea had no response and slipped to their fifth defeat in ten league games, leaving Cahill admitting the atmosphere in the dressing room is not good.

"[The mood in the dressing room] is not great – like you’d imagine when you lose games. Last season we weren’t used to it. The lads are devastated", he told the BBC.

"You’re left scratching your head sometimes. In the first half the Cesc Fabregas goal could have been given and we had the goal that was nearly over the line. That sums up the way we’re going.

"And then we’ve got the sending off. Originally we played on – we thought the referee had played on.

"Maybe the assistant called it back, I’m not sure sure what’s happened there.

"We’ve not had the rub of the green but we’re not feeling sorry for ourselves. We have to work hard to turn this round."

And Cahill revealed the Chelsea dressing room is a quiet place at present.

"Not many words are being said at the moment. I’m sure we’ll reflect in next day or so.

"We worked really hard at 10 men and had the majority of the play in the second half. It’s a summary of our season at the minute."
